Some of my wife’s sewing projects

My wife is pretty resourceful when it comes to anything she puts her mind to. The past few years she has really gotten into sewing and embroidery. These are just a few things she has made. Not displayed are many hats, scarfs, blankets, etc. she has made for friends and family.

My wife has been working on this tablecloth since 1984. It was a gift from her sister. It was placed on a table at our reception and wedding guests were asked to sign their names in pencil. Her sister then stitched over the signatures with thread. Later it was moved to our dining room table and many more people signed it over the years. Not too long ago my wife took it out of a drawer and finished stitching over the new names. Last year she entered it in the State Fair. All of their hard work paid off; it won a blue ribbon! It is fascinating to gaze over the signatures. Some of the people have passed away and little kids that scrawled their name on it many years ago have matured into adults. It is a beautiful piece of artwork portraying a period of our life’s timeline!

So, is your name in here? Sorry, couldn’t get them all !

More of her creations

One of several table runners she made recently.
This pillowcase was made for a granddaughter.
These placemats were used for Thanksgiving.
Before Christmas my wife hosted a cookie baking party and made us all aprons.
A beautiful scarf made for a good friend.

One of her favorite creations is this T-Shirt quilt. It was made from shirts she wore over the years as a breast cancer survivor. She really went through a trying time and this quilt is a nice tribute to her struggles with this awful disease.

The first picture on the right shows the first step: laying out the t-shirts and deciding which to use and where to place them. Next she had to cut them out, sew them together, and then a friend with a quilting machine added the meandering quilting. The last step was to bind the edges by hand.

Selecting the shirts and layout.
Almost ready to sew the shirts together.
Finished. Beautiful!

The pictures on the right are of a carryon bag my wife spent days making. It was really a step-up project for her, but it turned out beautiful. There are seven zippers in it!

This is a newer bag just made for a good friend of hers.

Two purses completed in June 2023.

Lots of hard work!

In 2024 Debbie entered even more of her quilts and bags into the Kentucky State Fair. She came away with several ribbons and awards. She deserved them from all of her hard work!

My favorite is this Puff quilt

Beautiful butterfly quilt

Blue ribbon for First Place!

The backpack on the left was made for one of our Grandsons. It earned a First Place Blue Ribbon!

The beautiful sweatshirt on the right was made by my wife’s sister, Vicki. Talent runs in the family!

The interesting creation on the right is a baby-changing pad complete with several compartments for diapers, lotion, etc.

In the Fall of 2024 several family members traveled to Durango, Colorado to visit our baby sister Gina. Gina throws an awesome Halloween Party! Debbie gave her this spooky Halloween quilt that was hung up behind the karaoke stage. It was a big hit!
